We decided to do an Olympic themed assembly, with all the classes representing a country. We all decided what role we wanted to play, and then we wrote the script and decided what the activities were going to be. We had a weet-bix eating competition, a cookie face balancing competition, a dress up, and an olympic quiz. Everyone did an amazing job, a big thank you to all the family and friends who came to watch - especially the ones that were made to participate!
HomeworkThis week our homework was to research a country, as you can see we did an amazing job - Miss H is very proud of us!
Aboriginal Dot ArtThis term we are celebrating different cultures, and we have been looking at Aboriginal dot art. We used cotton buds and earth paint tones on black paper. A big thank you to Mrs Hooley and Mrs McEwan who brought in some original pieces for us to look at. Here is an example of what we have completed in class - look out for later in the term when you get the chance to order this art on a calendar.
Chocolate - Yummy!This Term we have been doing a novel study on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Today we made our own chocolate creations - as you can see they didn't last long, so we took a photo before they all disappeared.
Our finished citiesWe finally finished our cities, we have all done an amazing job! To celebrate we invited Mr Smith to come and assess our results. Each team made a presentation and he had lots of questions for us. Well done to all of the teams!

Rugby Skills SessionsWestpac Helicopter visitMr Wiedel and Ernie - the search and rescue dog!Art ConstructionThis term we are designing and building our own tiny towns as part of our topic looking at communities. We have three teams, each with a team leader who is responsible for making sure everyone has a job to do, including cutting, folding, measuring, colouring, and organising materials. We have learned a lot about working together as a team, and how to use each others' strengths. Here are some photos of the start of the project, we will post some more photos as the towns grow.
Cross CountryToday was our Senior Cross Country. We have been training hard for weeks, and today we got to show how much we had improved. We ran two laps of the park, and the top six got their times recorded and given a certificate. Well done to everyone who put in an amazing effort, you should be very proud!
Easter scratch artTopic sharing - Sowing seedsOver the past few weeks we have all been working on our projects, our goal was to answer our three main questions for our Topic, and to show everything we had learned about seeds. We could choose to present our information in the form of a book, poster or on our personal blogs, here are some photos of the results - a special thank you to our photographers Emma and Charlotte.
Skype!This week we had our first Skype session with St John's school in Invercargill. We introduced ourselves to each other and showed a powerpoint presentation. A big thanks to Emily for being our first presenter. We will be using these sessions to share information and get to know each other, it's a great way to use our presenting and listening skills - thanks to St John's school for all their effort at their end, and we look forward to sharing our year with you.
Claymation movieMark comes to visitToday Mark came to talk to us about his job and how seeds get grown, cleaned, packed, stored and exported overseas. We even got to taste some of the plants, they were radishes, peas and barley - which can be turned into beer! We really enjoyed finding out some exciting new information, and we had lots of questions. Thanks Emily for bringing you Dad along today.
Our new pet fish!A couple of weeks ago Miss H got a fish tank from a market stall (thanks to Mrs Muckle), then we were very lucky to have two fish donated to us by Elle. We haven't decided on any names yet, but we are all looking forward to having a turn feeding them and getting to know them.
El Grego the musical magicianEl Grego came to Allenton school to tell us about how to stop bullying. He gave us six important ideas that we need to remember and use. They are respect, consideration, support, courage, honesty and caring. We really enjoyed the magic, the birds, the message was done in a fun way, the music, the puppet Ollie, and the audience participation. From now on we are going to try really hard to include people that we don't usually play with.

Celery experimentToday we soaked some celery in food colouring - we were trying to see if we could see how water and nutrients are soaked up through the stem of a plant - here are our before and after photos - can you see the changes?
Lucky spends the weekend with CharlotteOur pet bird Lucky spent the weekend at Charlotte's house. Charlotte wrote a beautiful diary about their experiences together - it sounds like they had an amazing time! A big thank you to Charlotte and her family for the wonderful weekend.

Matthew's BeadsMatthew brought in his beads today. Each bead represents a procedure that he went through at hospital. This is a very special time for Matthew because this week he got his last bead! Welcome to the class petThis is Lucky our class pet, he got his name because he was attacked by a cat and was rescued by Miss Hatherley's neighbour. Miss Hatherley took him in, and even though he is missing a few toes and claws, he has made an excellent pet. He stays in the class during the week and Miss Hatherley takes him home in the weekends - although there are a few keen students who have already offered to babysit!Lucky the class pet

Class Lip Sync!!!!This Thursday 17th November, we are performing a class lip sync at the Senior assembly. We have held auditions for the main parts, and have had a couple of practices - it's great that everyone in the class is involved. Hopefully we can record the performance - watch this space!
